Using Responder
Add Fault to Incident

Version: 10.1

Resource Center Home

Available in Responder Explorer.

An incident may have multiple devices associated with it. Assign additional devices to a confirmed incident using the Edit form. The Add Fault tool is not available if the incident has not been confirmed. This applies only to devices that are connected to the network. To add non-network features to an incident use the Add Location Feature tool.

Multi-Customer Load Points: If an incident exists on a multi-customer load point (e.g., apartment building), all customers on the load point must be designated as out before a fault may be added to the incident. If not all customers are listed as out on the load point, the user will receive a warning message when a fault is added. Use the Select Affected Customers tool to view the customers on the multi-customer load point and modify their outage status.

The added fault device must be normally Closed on any phase (i.e., NormalPosition = Closed). If you select a device that is normally Open on all phases, you will be prompted to create a switching operation instead.

Quick Steps

Add Fault

  1. Right-click confirmed incident.
  2. Select Add Fault.
  3. In ArcMap, click the device you wish to add.
  4. Modify the Edit New Fault dialog.
  5. Click OK.
  1. Right-click a confirmed incident and select Add Fault.
  1. In ArcMap, the cursor will appear as a circle with a blue dot in the middle (the blue dot snaps to devices). Click the device you wish to add to the incident. You may also click a line to create a cut. Responder does allow you to add devices from different feeders to the same incident as long as they are Confirmed.
  2. The Edit New Fault dialog displays information about the device you just selected. You may modify the Actual status and the Time of Operation. The available values in the Actual field are determined by the device's Normal Status and Phase Designation. For example, it will not allow you to set an Actual Status of ABC on a device that has an expected status of A Closed and a Phase Designation of A.
  3. Click OK on the Edit New Fault dialog to add the device to the selected incident in Responder Explorer.
