Configuring Responder/Smart Grid
Troubleshooting: Responder has no connection to OASyS and cannot receive OASyS events

Version: 10.1

Resource Center Home

There are several issues that can prevent Responder from receiving OASyS events. The following steps walk you though locating the cause. Follow each troubleshooting step until you find the solution.

  1. Check Physical Connection

Verify a physical connection between the Responder Server and the OASyS machine. Ping the OASyS from the Responder Server. Repeat the process from the OASyS machine to ensure that the Responder Server is accessible.

  2. Ensure the OASyS RCS Service Is Running Properly

On the OASyS machine, select from the Start Menu > All Programs > Telvent > OASyS DNA SCADA Suite > Network Management Console. Ensure that the RCS service is displayed with a green checkmark icon. If not, right-click RCS and select Startup to start the service.

  3. Ensure the Responder Server Can Access the RCS Channel

Open the DALConfig_remote.xml file. By default, this file is installed here: C:\Program Files\Telvent\config\DAL\es\remote. Note the RCSPortNumber value.

On the Responder Server, verify that the machine can access the RCSPortNumber (e.g., 50030). Open a command prompt and enter: telnet [RCS Server Name] 50030. If the RCS Server is named VMackenzie, the command will look like this:

           C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>telnet VMackenzie 50030

Here's an example of a failed attempt (the channel is not open):

Here's an example of a successful attempt (the channel is open):

  4. Ensure Certificates Are Properly Installed

The best way to ensure certificates are properly installed is to uninstall and reinstall them.

    Uninstall

On the Responder Server, open the Control Panel and select Internet Options. Select the Content tab and click the Certificates button. In the Certificates window, remove all certificates that start with OASyS_DNA. Check the Personal and Trusted Root Certification Authorities tabs. Close the Certificates window and the Internet Properties window.

    Install

Copy the following directory from the RCS Server: C:\TelventInstall and paste the TelventInstall folder to the C:\ drive of the Responder Server. If a TelventInstall folder already exists at this location, you may wish to rename it before copying the new version. You may also overwrite it. Install the certificates using the instructions on the Install Certificates – Responder Server page.

  5. Verify DAL Communication

This step ensures that the OASyS machine can properly communicate with the Responder Server. Perform the steps outlined on the Test the Configuration page.
