Configuring Responder/Smart Grid
Install Certificates - Responder Server

Version: 10.1

Resource Center Home

Follow these instructions to configure a Responder server. This must be done for all Responder servers that use the Telvent PubSub/RCS server. If your Responder client and server are installed on the same machine, certificates must be installed for both.

Windows Server 2003 Users: If you're installing on Windows Server 2003, the Responder Services user must be added to the Admin group while certificates are installed. To ensure proper security, the Responder Services user must be removed from the Admin group after the certificates have been installed.

Before installing certificates, ensure there aren't existing certificates. Select Internet Options in the Control Panel. Select the Content tab and click the Certificates button. If any OASyS certificates exist on the Personal tab, remove them. If any OASyS certificates exist on the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab, remove those as well.

  1. Browse to the certificates directory (e.g., C:\TelventInstall\certificates). Right-click certinstaller.exe and select Run As.
  2. Select the second radio button "The following user:" and enter the domain\user name and password for the Responder Services user. Click OK. You were prompted to enter the Responder Services user during installation.
  3. In the Certificate Installer, select the drive on which the certificates were generated.
  4. Select the Membership and SystemLink checkboxes.
  5. Click Install Certificates. You may be presented with a security warning. Click Yes.
  6. The results are displayed in the top window of the Certificates Installer.
  7. Click Exit to close the Certificate Installer.

Windows Server 2003 Users: Don't forget to remove the Responder Services user from the Admin group to ensure security.

Verify Certificates: You can verify that the certificates were installed by viewing them in the Internet Options. Right-click the executable for Internet Explorer and select Run as... (you can right-click it in the Start menu). Login as the Responder Services user (just as you did in step 2 above). Select Tools > Internet Options and select the Content tab. Click the Certificates button. Two OASyS certificates should appear on the Personal tab and one on the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab.

Test: You can test the communication between the RCS server and the RCS client. Run DALMultiSubscriber.exe on the RCS client machine (Responder server or Responder client) and DALMultiPublisher.exe on the RCS server. You may need to copy the executable from the RCS server. The instructions for using these tools are available on the Test the Configuration page. This process will work only if the OASyS server is using the same version as the Responder server (7.5.12).
