Engineering analysis tools are an integral part of any suite of tools used in the design and operation of a utility network. They perform vital calculations such as voltage drops, voltage flickers during motor starting, and optimal flows. Many third-party vendors specialize in the development of these tools. However, many of these analysis tools do not provide a seamless integration method with your corporate GIS database.

Network Adapter offers this integration between your engineering analysis engine and your corporate GIS database. You may utilize one of the implementation described in this section. These differ in the way data is imported into the engineering analysis engine and the functionality provided in Network Adapter.

There are several possible implementations for Network Adapter, although both Classic Implementations have been deprecated and are not recommended.

Standalone Network Adapter implementations

Standalone Network Adapter implementations run via a separate executable independent of ArcMap, and only require an ArcGIS Engine license.

Schneider Electric strongly recommends that you configure Network Adapter using one of the standalone implementations described below.

Implementations

Standalone Implementation 1 (DMS v2, v3): This implementation allows you to import feeder information into DMS v2 or v3 for analysis. You can configure Network Adapter to work with the MultiSpeak Information Model (DMS v2), or the Common Information Model (DMS v3). Because it does not require any custom code, this implementation is discussed in the Configuration documentation.
Standalone Implementation 2 (Windmil): This implementation allows you to import feeder information into Milsoft's Windmil for analysis.
Classic Implementation 1 (Windmil) and Classic Implementation 2 (Windmil with customization): These tools have been deprecated and will be removed from a future release of the product. If you need assistance for these implementations, please contact Tech Support.
