Overhead Design Analysis > Tabs > Ruling Span Tab |
The Ruling Span tab allows you to set an approximate ruling span for specific profiles in Overhead Design Analysis (OHDA). If the ruling span for a specific profile is 198 feet in your design, you can modify the value to an approxiate length to better correspond with your design standards. You can also override load cases and view a load cases report for a specific cable span.
To set a ruling span, follow these steps:
All cable types used in the selected profile are listed. Each cable's load case values for % Rated Breaking Strength and Critical Tension are displayed when you click the triangle next to the cable. You can edit these values from the Ruling Span tab. See the Edit Default Load Cases topic for more information on load cases.
This action affects all load cases in the profile. The Override All Load Cases button is only visible when more than one load case exists for a profile, and the Rated Breaking Strength is not the same for all cases.
This action affects only one load case in the profile.
The Load Cases Report Per Cable Span button allows you to view the Load Cases Report for the selected cable. Cable selection is made on the canvas or on the Cables Tab. In the report, OHDA highlights the row representing the selected cable's design condition load case. The highest critical tension value is preceded with an asterisk.
The selected Ruling Span is dependent on the selected cable in the Load Cases Report. For example, consider a case where the selected span includes poles P-1, P-2, and P-3. If the selected cable is only strung between poles P-2 and P-3, then the Ruling Span in the Load Cases Report will only include poles P-2 and P-3.
