Network Adapter Database

Resource Center Home

The Network Adapter database is used to store data for load cases and results imported from an analysis engine. If you are simply exporting data from the geodatabase (NOT load cases), then you do not need to configure or even create a Network Adapter database. However, Network Adapter will automatically create a version of NetworkAdapter.mdb when one doesn't already exist. There's no need to delete or modify this database. If you have elected to import analysis results for display in ArcMap or use load cases, then this database is necessary and must be properly configured.

Network Adapter uses this database in the following manner:

Renaming/Moving the Network Adapter Database

The Network Adapter Options in ArcMap allow you to designate the path to your Network Adapter database. By default, this path is set to: C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Miner and Miner\Network Adapter\NetworkAdapter.mdb.

If you wish to rename or move your existing Network Adapter database, you must update the Options dialog to reflect the new location in order for the database to be used by Network Adapter. To do this, open ArcMap and select the Options dialog on the Network Adapter toolbar that corresponds with your third-party analysis tool. Look for the Network Adapter MDB field. On the MultiSpeak Options dialog, this field is located on the Export Log tab. Enter the path to the Network Adapter database in this field.

If the Network Adapter database specified by the Options dialog (Network Adapter MDB field) does not exist at the location indicated, the Analysis API will create one at the default location: C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Miner and Miner\Network Adapter\. This new database will require configuration.

Each time ArcMap is started, Network Adapter attempts to compact the Network Adapter database. This is necessary because the file will gradually grow in size as results and load cases are added and deleted. Microsoft Jet Engine is required in order to compact the database.

Citrix Users: To ensure the Network Adapter database is compressed without errors, each user must have a unique path to the database. This may be achieved by storing the Network Adapter database in the user's Application Data folder. In the default path mentioned above, replace [user name] with the login name of the user. The [user name] may match the user's login name, in which case, the default behavior works for Citrix without modification.

All Users: Once you have created your Network Adapter database, it must be configured.

If you are upgrading to a new release, Network Adapter will attempt to upgrade your existing NetworkAdapter.mdb automatically. If the upgrade should fail, a message will be logged to your event log, your existing database will be renamed NetworkAdapter.mdb.bak, and Network Adapter will create a new NetworkAdapter.mdb.
