The ambiguous error may occur after upgrading Responder to 9.1.2 SP1. To remedy, simply close ArcMap and browse to the Normal.mxd file. This file resides in the login user's Application Data directory (e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\kimd\Application Data\Esri\ArcMap\Templates\) Rename Normal.mxd (to anything) and open ArcMap again.
