Ruling Span

Resource Center Home

An Actual Ruling Span is an equivalent span length based on the total length and average tension of the conductor in a series of spans which is being pulled up and sagged in one operation. The Actual Ruling Span cannot be determined until the line is staked. For this reason, the Design Ruling Span is assumed, based on experience, and used for field design.

The Ruling Span tab allows you to select a design ruling span. The Actual Ruling Span field will be highlighted in red when it falls outside of the design span threshold. You may set this threshold using the Designer Options, Structural Analysis tab. You may add spans to the Spans table by manually entering a Span name and length into the table. You may also use the Ruling Span Length Tool to include spans on the map. All rows in the Spans table may be edited.

The Ruling Span frame is visible only on the Ruling Span tab in Structural Analysis.
