Ruling Span Length Tool

Resource Center Home

This tool is available on the Structural Analysis Ruling Span tab. Use it to determine the length and angle conductors when calculating the Actual Ruling Span.

  1. Click the Ruling Span Length tool next to the Actual Ruling Span field. In ArcMap, the cursor will look like this:
  2. Single-click the beginning of the span.
  3. Single-click the poles or end of spans. You may right-click an drag the cursor to pan while using the Ruling Span Length tool.
  4. Double-click the last pole to finish.

Note: Unlike the Multiple Span Length Tool, double-clicking the final pole both adds the span to the list and finishes the Ruling Span Length Tool.

  5. The Span and Length fields will be populated on the Ruling Span tab for each span indicated on the map.

The Structural Analysis form will minimize when you select the Ruling Span Length tool. It will be restored when you double-click to end or press Esc.

The selected pole is the structure for which the ruling span is calculated.
