Multiple Span Length Tool

Resource Center Home

Use this tool to determine the length and angle of the conductors attached to the selected pole. The Multiple Span Length Tool is available in the Conductors frame on the following Structural Analysis tabs: Transverse Pole Strength, Bisector Guy, Cross Arm, Clearance.

  1. Select a Structural Analysis tab with a Conductors frame displayed. In ArcMap, the cursor will look like this:
  2. Select the Multiple Span Length Tool and click the point on the map that indicates the pole placement. The first click always determines where the pole is located.
  3. Click the end of each span. You may right-click and drag the cursor to pan while using the Multiple Span Length tool.

Double-click anywhere in the map to end. The span ended by the double-click will not be added.

  4. If you click near a junction of two conductors, the Multiple Span Length tool will ask the user to identify which span.
  5. Select a feature from the Select Feature screen. You may highlight the selected feature by clicking the Highlight Feature button. Click OK to select the span.
  6. Single click the end of each span (including the last one). Then double-click anywhere in the map to end.

Note: If you double-click the last span, it will not be included. Unlike the Ruling Span Length Tool, double-click does not add the final span to the list.

The spans indicated with the Multiple Span Length Tool are added to the Conductors frame.
