Responder Mobile Configuration Guide
Configure Field Machines

Resource Center Home

The Responder Mobile application allows crew members in the field to access incident information. Before this application can be used in the field, it must be set up to point to the ArcGIS map service and SQL Server Express database set up on the Enterprise.

  1. After installing the Responder Mobile application, you can select it from the Start Menu > All Programs > ArcFM Mobile > ArcFM Responder Mobile.
  2. You will be prompted to log in. The first time you can log in by entering anything at all in the User Name field.

Login: The User Name field will take any value as a login and allow you to view and edit the values on the Settings screen. In order to view Responder incidents, you must enter a valid Crew ID in the User Name field.

If you wish to prevent users from editing values on the Settings screen, you can disable editing in these fields in the configuration file.

  3. Select Settings from the list at the bottom of the screen.
  4. On the Application Settings screen, select Styling on the left side of the window. These settings are optional.
    • Enable Animations: By default this checkbox is enabled. Unselect the checkbox to disable animations in ArcFM Mobile. Disabling animation may improve performance.
    • Skin: If you have created a custom skin, you can select it from the pull-down menu. By default, you can select from Blue, Day or Night.
  5. Select Task Service on the left side of the window.
    • Sync Delay: This value determines how often ArcFM Responder Mobile in the field attempts to synchronize with the Enterprise (i.e., send/receive incident data). The default setting is 5 minutes.
    • Web Service URL: This is the URL of the MobileServices web service. Steps on the Configure MobileServices web service page show where to get this URL.
    • Authentication: Select the type of authentication you'd like to use when running the web service. This setting MUST match the setting in Web.config on the Enterprise machine. The Web.config is discussed on the Configure MobileServices Web Service page.
      • Windows: Uses windows authentication.
      • Basic: This option requires a certificate for SSL encryption.
      • None: No authentication.
    • Web Service Login: This field is only necessary if you have enabled security on your MobileServices web service and selected Windows or Basic as your authentication method. By default, security is turned off and you can leave this field blank.
    • Web Service Password: This field is only necessary if you have enabled security on your MobileServices web service and selected Windows or Basic as your authentication method. By default, security is turned off and you can leave this field blank.

If the Web Service Login and Password fields are populated, the user MUST login with the user name/password entered. If a different user name/password are used, Responder Mobile will not function properly. These fields are required with Windows or Basic authentication.

  6. Select Map on the left side of the window. This data points to the ArcGIS for Server map services you created on the Enterprise.
    • Map Server Path: This is the SOAP URL to the map service that contains the layers on which field users may place incidents and hazards. The Create Map Service step discusses where to find the URL that is required by this field.
    • Local Map Cache Path: The MobileServices web services synchronizes with the SQL Server Express database and stores a cache locally to ensure the data is available when the field user is not connected. Browse to the directory you copied from the server in the Create Mobile Map step.
  7. Close Responder Mobile.
