ArcFM Desktop Developer Guide
Packet Adapters

Resource Center Home

The ArcFM Mobile Solution uses packet adapters to transfer data between Process Framework databases (e.g., Enterprise and field). For example, a packet adapter moves information such as Design ID and map extent along with the XML packet when design data is transferred between the Enterprise and field databases. Both sessions and designs use packet adapters. All standard data is managed via packet adapters. However, if you have custom data you wish to include in the XML packet, you will need to create a custom packet adapter to move that data.

At the 9.3 Rev2 release, Mobile began using XML packets rather than the older and larger workspace packets. This new functionality takes advantage of the smaller packet size to increase performance when transferring data between the field and Enterprise. If you created custom packet adapters before 9.3 Rev2, they will need to be updated to support XML packets.

This section discusses how to create a custom packet adapter as well as how to upgrade existing adapters to support XML packets.
