Create XY Event Layers

XY Event layers allow you to use a table or view to display events on the map. An XY Event layer does not require a connection to a feature layer. Most Responder layers are created using XY Event layers to minimize the use of joins.

We recommend using Query Layers instead of XY Event Layers. In addition to performance improvements, Query Layers supports both Search and Identify functionality in the Responder Web/ArcFM Server integration. This functionality is limited with XY Event Layers.

From the main menu, select File | Add Data | Add XY Data.

Select a table in the top field. The pull-down menu may be empty, so select the Browse button and browse to the table in the database. Below are the tables used by the Responder layers in the sample data.
- Hazards: RX_HAZARDS
- Tags and Grounds: RX_TAGS_AND_GROUNDS
- Non-electric Features: RX_INCIDENT_FEATURES
- Incidents:
  - Incident Devices: RX_INCIDENT_DEVICES_VIEW
  - Cut Wire Incident: RX_INCIDENT_DEVICES_CUTS_VIEW
  - Single Premise Incident: RX_INCIDENT_DEVICES_SVC_VIEW
- Crews:
  - Crews:Electric Incident: RX_CREW_INCDEV_VIEW
  - Crews:Non-electric Incident: RX_CREW_INCFEAT_XY_VIEW
    To display truck information rather than crew data, use the following view.
  - Trucks: RX_TRUCK_INCDEV_VIEW

The RX_CREW_ASSIGNMENT_COUNT_VIEW is used by the other views to create a count of the assigned crews. Layers are not created using this view and nothing needs to be done with it during configuration.

Once you've added the XY Event layer, right-click it and select Properties. Select the General tab and modify the Layer Name as appropriate.
By default, the XY Event layers are added under the Layers node on the Display tab. Click the XY Event layers and drag them into the Responder_cached group. Some of the layers in the sample data are organized into group layers (e.g., Hazards, Incidents, Crews) within the Responder_cached group.

Once you've finished adding XY Event layers, you can create symbology for them.
