During the Responder Server installation, the user is prompted to enter a user name/password for the domain user that will run the Responder Services. The installer then adds this user to the local Users Group and assigns it Administrator permissions. This user temporarily requires Administrator permissions in order to successfully install certificates. If for some reason this user is not included in the local User Group or it has the incorrect permissions assigned, follow the steps below.

The Responder Services user must have local Administrator permissions in order to successfully install certificates. Follow the steps below the add this user to the Users group and assign the appropriate permissions.

Once certificates are successfully installed, the Responder Services user is no longer required to be in the Administrators Group. However, the Responder Services user MUST belong to the local Users Group. If you're installing on Windows Server 2003, the Responder Services user must belong to the local Users Group and the Performance Monitor Users Group. These group assignments will be made automatically by the installer, unless the user running the installer doesn't have Administrator permissions. It's always smart to double-check that the Responder Services user has been added to the proper groups.

1. In the Control Panel, open User Accounts and click Add.

   

2. Enter the Responder Services user name and the domain. Click Next.

   

3. Select the radio button next to Other and choose Administrators from the pull-down menu. Click Finish.
4. Your Responder Services user will appear in the list of users. Click OK to dismiss the User Accounts window.
