Use Connection Manager to view, create or edit fiber connections such as splices between fibers and connections to fibers and equipment. This tool is available when you have a Fiber Manager license, you have enabled the Fiber Manager extension, and you have fiber data displayed in the data frame.

If you want to view fiber connections but not create or edit them, you can use the Connection Manager without starting an editing session. Some of its components will be absent.

Depending on your configuration, connecting or disconnecting fiber objects may automatically connect and disconnect all of their children and further descendant objects. For example, connecting two ABF tubes with the Connection Manager can also connect the fiber stands within those tubes, as well as the channels within those fiber strands. Connections automatically created below parents will display in the Connection Manager the next time you open it.

About Data: If you want to disconnect a sheath from the network, you must use the Connection Manager to disconnect it from both ends. Errors and corrupt data may occur if you attempt to disconnect it using another method (e.g., Esri's Disconnected Editing). Ensure that both ends are disconnected from the network to prevent corrupt data.

The Connection Manager respects neither the X-Style tracing nor Directional tracing options in the Fiber User Settings.

Create connections

Click the Connection Manager button on the Fiber Manager toolbar.

Use the Connection Manager cursor

to hover over the map feature until the feature is highlighted.

If you select a feature that contains conflicts, the Connection Conflict Resolution tool opens.

Click the feature to display the Connection Manager form.
Use the right and left drop-down menus to select the two features you want to view or whose connections you want to edit. The following example shows two of the three fiber optic cables spliced at this location (SplicePoint 9, whose name is displayed in the title bar). This example concerns the connections between the North 35th BB52 and the North 35th BB53 fiber optic cables.

The squap callout below indicates a connection to the Scott Elementary fiber optic cable that is not currently displayed on the form via the drop-down menus.
For the connections you're about to create, select attribute values for tray, splice type, and attenuation loss. Until you change them, all new connections will contain the values you enter.
Stubs represent unconnected (available) fibers. To connect a stub, hover over the stub to display a blue dot. Click the stub to select it.
Click a stub on the other side to complete the connection.

There are alternate ways to create connections in Connection Manager:

Use the Autoconnect button to create connections between ALL available stubs on either side of the Connection Manager. This tool starts at the top of the each list and works downward until there are no remaining available stubs in one of the lists. Note that Autoconnect forms connections for all available, corresponding strands, even those not displayed in the visible portion of the form.
Use the Shift and Control keys to simultaneously select multiple contiguous and non-contiguous stubs, respectively. Then click a stub on the other side where you want to start connecting each selected stub. Note that intervening squaps halt the connection creation process.

Edit connections

You must select at least one connection before you can modify its attribute values. Use the Shift and Control keys to select multiple contiguous and non-contiguous connections, respectively. You can only modify attribute values applicable to the selected connections.
Change one or more attribute values.
Click the green update button to the right of a particular attribute field to update that attribute for the selected connections. Alternatively, click Update All to update all editable attribute values for the selected connections.
Click OK to save the edits and exit the form or click Apply to save the edits and keep the form open.
On the ArcGIS toolbar, select Editor > Save Edits.

Disconnect

Select one or more connections you want to disconnect. Use the Shift and Control keys to select multiple contiguous and non-contiguous connections, respectively.
Click Disconnect. Alternatively, you can right click and select Disconnect.
Click OK to save the edits and exit the form or click Apply to save the edits and keep the form open.
On the ArcGIS toolbar, select Editor > Save Edits.
