Add Work Location

Resource Center Home

A Work Location (WL) represents the site area within a design where work is done and/or where equipment is located. Each WL is assigned a unique identification number within the work request. Work Locations may not be added in Workflow Manager. You must open the design in ArcMap.

  1. Open a design.
  2. Double-click the Work Location layer on the CUs tab under Designer Objects to add it to the Targets tab of the Attribute Editor. (You can also right-click and select Send to Targets.)
  3. On the Targets tab of the Attribute Editor, click WL Not Set.
  4. Define attribute values. Add the Work Request ID if the selected design associates the WL to it. Work Location ID will be assigned according to selections made on Designer CU to Work Location Assignment Options. You may also edit the WL attributes after it has been placed.
  5. Click the map to place the WL. You can place CUs and assign them to existing work locations. You can also place WLs automatically (see Configuration Guide in ArcCatalog).

The WL's symbology appears on the map. It will also appear in your open design on the Design tab. The WL will be labeled WL Not Set. You can place CUs and assign them to existing work locations by clicking the Designer CU to Work Location Assignment button. This function also renames the WL based on the options selected on the WL Assignment tab of the Designer options.
