In the past, if you updated a CU within the library, you'd also have to update each and every favorite that contained a copy of that CU. CU referencing eliminates this need.
With CU referencing, favorites no longer contain copies of CUs. Rather they contain a reference or a pointer to the original CU in the CU library. So if you update a CU in the library, that change will be reflected in any favorites that reference the CU. This functionality is integrated into Designer and requires no configuration.
Designer uses a combination of the following information to reference a CU. This combination will always be unique for each CU in the library. WMS Code + Table Name + Subtype |
Do not panic. Should a user access a favorite that contains a CU not available in the new CU tables (it was not converted or was deleted for some reason), the world will not come to an end. The favorite will still contain the original CU and may still be placed. However, that CU will reference the original CU blob rather than the new flat table reference library. Essentially CU referencing will not work on that particular CU. To correct this issue, replace the CU in the favorite with one that exists in the CU library. Additional information about problems with migrating CUs is available on the Migrate Data page in the Migration Warnings box.
