ArcFM Solution Configuration Guide
FiberConnectionObject

Version: 10.1

Resource Center Home

This object is used to create connections between fibers, ports, device ports, and splitter ports. These objects are represented as the lines that connect objects in the Connection Manager. All of these fields are required by the application and should not be changed. Fields should not be added to this object because there will not be a way to modify or display them. This functionality may change in future versions of Fiber Manager. This table should not be populated by any method other than using the Connection Manager. Serious data corruption can occur if fields are modified by an outside process. This includes adding data to or deleting data from this table by a batch or bulk loading process.

Attributes (required fields in red):

  • TrayNumber: long integer - This stores the value for the tray in which a particular splice occurs. This field is valid for splices within a splice enclosure. These also can model fusion splices to the pigtail fibers on the backside of patch panel ports. An editor can splice to another cable or fibers within the same cable at a splice location. This is a required field for Connection Manager that cannot be deleted or changed.

SpliceType: text - This stores the type of splice for connections between two fibers. This value cannot be stored on connections to ports. The valid types of connections are C (Continuous), F (Fusion), M (Mechanical) or G (Glue). A continuous connection models a situation in which the fibers have not been cut, but pass through the splice enclosure undisturbed. Even though there is not technically a splice at this location, a splice of type Continuous explicitly notes the status of the fibers at that point. This information will be used in future analysis tools and keep assumed optical losses at these splices to zero. This is a required field for Connection Manager that cannot be deleted or changed.

Attenuation1310: double - This field stores the optical loss in the 1310 wavelength for this specific splice. This information can be derived from an OTDR file. This is a required field for Connection Manager that cannot be deleted or changed.

Attenuation1550: double - This field stores the optical loss in the 1550 wavelength for this specific splice. This information can be derived from an OTDR file. This is a required field for Connection Manager that cannot be deleted or changed.

ConnectionLocation: text - This field is used in Fiber Manager up to the 9.1.2 version. At the 9.2 version the way ports within patch panels are managed changed to a simpler model. The biggest change was that Patch Panels now have a specific FronsidePort and BacksidePort. That functionality and data model change makes this field unnecessary. The Fiber Connection Location domain is assigned to this field.

ConnectionType: long integer - This field is designed to track the type of connection (optical or electrical) made in the Connection Manager. This field will be used in future functionality for managing virtual connections through devices that convert the light signal into an electrical signal. This functionality will be needed to support grouping of light path circuits into rings for the support of SONET. This is a required field for Connection Manager that cannot be deleted or changed. The Fiber Connection Type domain is assigned to this field.

SDEVersion: text - This is a required field that is used to store the SDE version in which the connection was created. This is used by the Fiber Manager Conflict Manager to help users determine the history and lineage of a connection.

GlobalID: GlobalID - This field contains a unique number (GUID) that is generated and maintained by ArcGIS. This value is used for all relationships in the ArcFM data model and is required for Fiber Manager to function properly.

ContainerGlobalID: GUID - This field contains the GlobalID of the parent feature in the F_FiberConnectionObject table. It is used by the Connection Manager, tracing, Circuit Manager and reports to correctly navigate the Fiber Manager connectivity model.

AConnectionObjectGlobalID: GUID - Fiber Manager uses this field to specify the object (fiber or port) on one side of a connection.

BConnectionObjectGlobalID: GUID - Fiber Manager uses this field to specify the object (fiber or port) on one side of a connection.

ContainerClassModelName: text - This field contains the model name of the parent feature where connections are made (e.g., SplicePoint, PatchLocation, Splitter, DeviceLocation). Fiber Manager uses this information to identify connections (using a model name) at a specific feature.

AClassModelName: text - Fiber Manager uses this field to identify the type of class being connected to the 'A side' of a connection.

BClassModelName: text - Fiber Manager uses this field to identify the type of class being connected to the 'B side' of a connection.

FiberCircuitGlobalID: GUID - Circuit Manager uses this field to store the GlobalID of the Circuit record stored in the Circuit Table.
