The Responder Explorer configuration file (Miner.Responder.Explorer.exe.config) is an XML file that must be edited on each client machine. Configure this file for any client machine that accesses Responder. This file is located in the Miner and Miner\Responder\Client folder. You may edit the file by opening it in an XML application (such as XML Spy) or by opening it in a simple text editing program (such as Notepad).

Do not edit XML files using a word processing program such as WordPad or Microsoft Word as it may corrupt your configuration file.

  1. On the client machine, browse to and open Miner.Responder.Explorer.exe.config.
  2. Look for the following XML:

    Copy Code
        <channels>
          <channel ref="msmq" isServer="false" ComputerName="ServerName" />
        </channels>

  3. Modify the ComputerName value to match the name of the machine running Responder Services. If you're running the Responder services and client on the same machine, this value can be ".".  This configures the client machine to point to the correct Responder server.
  4. Save and close Miner.Responder.Explorer.exe.config.

For Query Service users:

  1. Look for the following XML in Miner.Responder.Explorer.exe.config:

    Copy Code
        <queryService>
          <queryService server="localhost" port="49300" enabled="false" />
        </queryService>

  2. Modify the server value to match the name of the server where Query Services is installed. If you are running the Responder services and client on the same machine, this value can remain "localhost".
    If you have multiple instances of Query Services running on different servers, you can add a comma delimited list of different server names. For example:
    <queryService>
       <queryService server="SERVERNAME1,SERVERNAME2,SERVERNAME3,SERVERNAME4" port="49300" enabled="true"/>
    </queryService>

  3. Change the port to match the Query Services port specified for Query Services in the Miner.Responder.Data Services.exe.config file.
  4. Set the enabled value to "true". This configures the client machine to enable query services.
  5. Save and close Miner.Responder.Explorer.exe.config.
