Connectivity

Unlike a GIS network model, CIM uses a node-terminal model for connectivity. In this model, each electrical feature has at least one distinct terminal for connection to the network. This terminal is connected to the terminals of neighboring features with the modeling concept of a “connectivity node”.

To support this connectivity model, the Core CIM model in NA includes Terminal and ConnectivityNode objects associated with all conducting equipment in the network.

Conducting Equipment: The parts of the power system that are designed to carry current or that are conductively connected through their terminals.
Terminal: An electrical connection point to a piece of conducting equipment. Terminals are connected at physical connection points called ConnectivityNodes.
ConnectivityNode: A point where terminals of conducting equipment are connected together with zero impedance.
