FAQ: How do I create a map document that works with ArcIMS?

A map document (*.mxd) created to work with ArcServer will also work with ArcIMS. The map document must not prompt the user to login to SDE.

  1. Open ArcMap and connect to the SDE database.

  2. Open the stored display you wish to display to the user when the map document is opened.

  3. Save the map document (*.mxd).

  4. Close ArcMap.

  5. Open ArcCatalog.

  6. Create a database connection to the SDE database. Select the checkbox to save the user name and password with the version. Ensure the version is set to MMBulletinBoard. Click OK.

  7. Open ArcMap and cancel the ArcFM login when prompted.

  8. Open the map document saved in step 3. It should open without the SDE database connection login window.

  9. If you are prompted to enter SDE connection information, enter the user name/password used in step 6. Save the map document and open it again.
