Appendix > Fiber Manager Data Model > Splitter |
A splitter is a passive optical device that splits a light signal and sends that same signal down multiple output ports. Splitters are most widely used in Passive Optical Networks (PON) configurations for Fiber to the X (FTTX) deployments. These deployments bring Fiber to the Home, Building, Curb, and other locations.
A splitter usually has one input port and multiple output ports. For example, a 1x8 splitter would have one input port to connect to a single fiber, and eight output ports for eight locations downstream from the splitter.
