Using ArcFM Solution Desktop
Buffer Distance Tool

Resource Center Home

The Buffer Distance Tool provides a simple means to modify the size of the buffer displayed around the trace results. It is especially useful if you modify this value frequently. Alternatively, you may set the buffer distance on the Tracing tab of the ArcFM Options. Only features that are visible in the map may have a buffer. The Buffer Distance tool must be added to a toolbar using the Customize menu (look for Trace Buffer Distance in the list).

This tool will remain disabled if the Draw Buffer checkbox on the Tracing tab in ArcFM Options remains unchecked.

If labels disappear when the trace buffer is drawn, adjust the relevant layer's Placement Properties:

  1. Double-click a feature class in the Table of Contents to open its Layer Properties window.
  2. Click the Labels tab.
  3. Click Placement Properties.
  4. Check Place overlapping labels.
  5. Click Apply, OK, then OK again. Labels are now visible.
