ArcFM Desktop Configuration Guide
Configure License Manager with Firewall

Resource Center Home

License Manager may be used with firewalls. If you utilize an enterprise firewall, License Manager communicates through TCP port 29001. If you have a personal firewall installed - specifically Symantec - the following instructions show how to configure it to work with License Manager.

If you are using Norton Personal Firewall software, you will need to configure License Manager to work with it. There are two ways to configure the license server to function properly. The first and simplest mechanism is to allow, when prompted by the Norton Personal Firewall, the Miner.LicenseManagement.LicenseService.exe to access the network.

Option 1:

When executing the license server installation, near the completion of the installation the user will be prompted by the Norton Personal Firewall on whether to allow the service to run. The dialog looks like this:

The user needs to change the drop-down to "Always allow connections to this program on all ports" and click OK. If this step isn't performed, the user must perform a second set of steps to allow the server to run normally.

Option 2:

If the user declined access for the service in Option 1, License Manager will not function property and neither will any ArcFM applications. To configure the Norton Personal Firewall, the user must perform the following steps.

  1. Right-click the Norton Person Firewall icon in the system tray.
  2. Select "Norton Personal Firewall." The following screen is displayed.
  3. Select the "Personal Firewall" row, then click the Configure button. The following screen is displayed.
  4. Select the Program Control.
  5. Scroll down in the list to locate Miner.LicenseManagement.LicenseService.exe.
  6. Change the Custom Action value to Permit All.
