ArcFM Desktop Configuration Guide
Create Feature-Linked Annotation

Resource Center Home

Follow the steps below to create feature-linked annotation. Be sure to add the DesignID field and assign the appropriate model names before advancing to the next step in the configuration.

  1. In ArcCatalog, right-click the dataset and select New > Feature Class. This should be the same dataset in which your DFCs reside.
  2. On the first screen of the New Feature Class wizard, enter a Name and Alias for your new feature class. The Name and Alias fields may not include any spaces or special characters.
  3. In the Type field, choose ArcFM Annotation Feature.
  4. Select the checkbox labeled: Link the annotation to the following feature class.
  5. Choose the DFC to which you want to link the annotation. Click Next.
  6. Choose a Reference Scale and map units. Click Next.
  7. Choose a label field. Here you can also set the position and the offset value in map units. Click Next.
  8. You can choose a database storage configuration. Click Next.
  9. Add the DesignID field with a data type of Long Integer. Click Finish.
  10. Right-click the feature you just created and select ArcFM Properties Manager.
  11. Select the Field Model Names tab.
  12. Select the DesignID field and assign the DESIGNID field model name. By default, this model name is stored in the Designer Field Model Name domain.
  13. Click OK.

The feature-linked annotation DFCs are included in the express design and the express and the Express Design Deleter will delete them with the rest of the express design. However, they are not included in the Design Estimate.

Feature-linked annotation DFCs are explicitly ignored by the commissioner because they are automatically re-created when the core feature is created if the real feature-linked annotation is configured to be created automatically. The feature-linked annotation DFCs are subsequently deleted when the commissioner deletes their related DFCs.
