Once configured, ArcFM Inset Frames allows the user to indicate specific features within a stored display to be shown individually in separate windows in the map layout view. To configure a geodatabase for the Inset Frames tool, you may need to add the model names.
- Right-click the geodatabase in the ArcCatalog TOC and select Properties.
- Scroll to an ArcFM model name domain in the Domain Name window (Minerville uses the Domain Independent Object Class Model Name Domain).
- Add INSETFRAMESOURCE in the Code and Description windows (under the Coded Values section), if not already displayed.
- Click Apply.
- Scroll to an ArcFM field model name domain (Minerville uses the Domain Independent Field Model Name Domain).
- Add INSETFRAMETITLE, INSETFRAMESORTINDEX, and INSETFRAMESCALE in the Code and Description windows, if not already displayed.
- Click OK.
Next, use the ArcFM Properties Manager to add these model names to the feature classes to be displayed with the Inset Frames tool.
- Right-click the feature class in the ArcCatalog TOC and select ArcFM Properties Manager.
- On the Model Names tab, select the appropriate model name domain.
- Add INSETFRAMESOURCE to the Model Names Selected window.
- Click the Field Model Names tab and select the field you want to be used as the Inset Frame caption.
- Select the appropriate field model name domain.
- Add INSETFRAMETITLE to the Model Names Selected window. If you do not assign this model name, the ArcFM Display Field is used as the caption for each inset frame. If the ArcFM Display Field is empty and the model name has not been assigned, the feature's Object ID will be displayed.
- On the Field Model Names tab, select the field you want to be used to sort the inset frames.
- Select the appropriate field model name domain.

Optional. Add INSETFRAMESORTINDEX to the Model Names Selected window. This field model name is optional. If you do not assign a field to be used for sorting, ArcFM uses the field with INSETFRAMETITLE assigned. If this model name is also not assigned, ArcFM will sort the inset frames by ArcFM Display Field or Object ID (if the ArcFM Display Field is empty).
- On the Field Model Names tab, select the field you want to be used to set the scale for the inset frames. This field can have a text or numeric data type.
- Select the appropriate field model name domain.

Optional. Add INSETFRAMESCALE to the Model Names Selected window. This field model name is optional. If you assign this model name, the field value will be used to set the scale of the inset frames. If the field value is null or non-numeric, the Scale field on the ArcFM Inset Frame window will be used.
- Click OK.
Special Inset Frame Feature Classes
The ElectricInsetFrameSource and GasInsetFrameSource feature classes are polygon features which may be used to draw polygons around portions of the map you want displayed in an inset frame.
If these features aren’t a part of your feature data set, you may add them by right-clicking a data set in ArcCatalog and selecting New | Feature Class (see Configure the Geodatabase). These feature classes must have the following geometry and model name assigned. You may use a different feature class name if desired.
Feature Class Name: ElectricInsetFrameSource or GasInsetFrameSource
Geometry: Polygon
Model Name: INSETFRAMESOURCE
Assign the INSETFRAMETITLE field model name to the field you want to be used as the Inset Frame caption.
